The Old Raleigh

1972 Raleigh Sports 3 Speed

So, I decided to get this old 1972 Raleigh Sports that's been hanging around the shop for a few years and build it up. I like the Pashley Guvnor style so let's go with this.

Some random thoughts:

Crankset and Bottom Bracket

That means a new bottom bracket if replacing the crankset. I do have a NOS set of Ritchey cranks that would look great now that I think about it.
Wheels Hubs Spokes Nipples

The rear wheel has forty spokes and the Sturmey Archer's that are available are only in 32 or 36 spoke holes. Ill call a buddy that deals in vintage parts and see if he has a 36 spoke rear.
I would like to keep the Sturmey Archer rims though, because of the raised center S7 rim style.
I definitely want the rims to be black as with the spokes.
Maybe a different colored nipple?

Sturmey Two Speed Kickback
(freewheel version)

Sturmey 3 Speed

I'm thinking an all black component bike. All black wheels except for the hubs. Brown Brooks saddle and brown Brooks leather bartape. Toe clip pedals with leather ends. This is going to be pricey, but worth it. I'll update as I get parts and product in. Send me some of your thoughts........Lee

  1. Any updates on this project? I have a 1972 Raleigh in good condition, but would like to redo the paint. I love the Paschley Guvnor as well and would love to see how yours turned out.
